Halloween 2026 is Saturday, October 31. The best-known Halloween freebie is a free Krispy Kreme doughnut for anyone in costume, no purchase needed. Add free trunk-or-treats, free store events for kids, free printable costumes and decorations, and free Halloween movies with a library card, and you can do the whole holiday for the cost of the candy.
Halloween 2026 freebies open now
Nothing for this one is listed yet this season. Offers usually show up a week or two ahead, and new ones land on the FreebieAgent homepage as soon as they open, so check back.
Free food for wearing a costume
Krispy Kreme is the reliable one. It has given a free Original Glazed doughnut to anyone in costume on Halloween for years, kids and grown-ups alike, at participating US shops. In 2025 it added the Saturday before Halloween as a second free day. Other chains have run costume deals too, but most are a discount, not free, so read the terms before you plan a trip around one.
Free Halloween events
- Trunk-or-treats.Churches, schools and fire stations hand out candy from decorated car trunks in a parking lot. Free, safe and quick with small kids. Check your town's Facebook groups.
- Downtown trick-or-treating. Many main streets and malls let kids trick-or-treat store to store in the afternoon. Free, and done before dark.
- Free kids' workshops.Home improvement stores run free monthly kids' build workshops, and October projects are often Halloween themed. Sign up on the store's site.
- Library events. Libraries run free costume parties, story times and pumpkin crafts in the last week of October.
Free things you can do at home
- Free printables. Pumpkin carving stencils, coloring pages, party games and DIY costume templates are free from craft and parenting sites. Skip any that ask for a card number.
- Free Halloween movies. Library apps like Kanopy and Hoopla stream movies free with a library card, including family Halloween picks. Free ad-supported streaming services add Halloween channels in October.
- Teal pumpkin signs. If you hand out non-food treats for kids with allergies, FARE's Teal Pumpkin Project has free printable signs.
Tips
- Halloween is on a Saturday this year, so events are spread across Friday and Saturday. Check times.
- Wear the costume for the freebie. A hat or ears usually counts, but some shops want a real costume.
- Candy is cheapest on November 1, if you want next year's stash or a cheap treat for yourself.
